ACEMCO Motorsports Finishes Third in GTS at Road America
Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin -- ACEMCO Motorsports finished third in round seven of the American Le Mans Series race today at Road America.
Terry Borcheller started the number 63/ACEMCO Motorsports/Saleen S7-R from their fourth place GTS qualifying position. "If the number 38 car wouldn't have spun out right in front of me at the start I may have been ahead of the Corvettes -I was on my way to a great start. It would have been fun to get ahead of them out of the gate. It became difficult to manage the car after ten laps so I brought the car in for tires and gas on lap nineteen. After that pit stop it really started to get hot in the S7-R." The fan, cool-suit and water bottle are all on the same circuit and they were not working. "I wanted information on how much longer I was going to be in the car, so they gave me a count down on the laps remaining before pitting."
Teammate Johnny Mowlem took over on lap thirty-nine. "The car developed a vibration on the third lap of my stint and then six laps later the left front tire deflated, pitching me into the gravel in turn fourteen. The team did a great job to keep the car going to the end under a very tough set of circumstances. It was a long day. I am looking forward to putting the work in to get the car better for Petit."
"Mechanically the car has been reliable the last couple of races. We need to get all of the pieces working together so we can field the most competitive car possible. We have some things to work on and we plan on doing just that before Petit," said owner Jeff Giangrande. "August 30th we will be doing a mechanical shake down on the car at Putnam Park. Then on September 2nd we plan to do a nine-hour simulation endurance race at Mid-Ohio."
The team will travel to Georgia to prepare for round eight to be run at Road Atlanta on September 25th.
