ACEMCO Motorsports Qualifies Third in GT1 at Road America

Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin -- Johnny Mowlem drove the number 63/ACEMCO Motorsports/Saleen S7-R to a third place qualifying position in GT1 for tomorrow's running of the Generac 500 American Le Mans Series race to be run at Road America.

The day started on a high-note for the Michigan based team. Terry Borcheller was able to set the fast time in this morning's practice session. In qualifying this afternoon, Mowlem went nearly a half-second faster, posting a time of 2:01.152 and 120 mph, which was only good enough for a third place starting position.

"Just when we thought we had the measure of the Vettes, they throw down a lap which breaks the GT1 track record," reflects Mowlem. "The target keeps moving on us. I really thought the time I posted would have been good enough for pole. The car gets better every weekend and we are taking full advantage of the give-backs by the IMSA tech guys. We will be ready for the race and hope to repeat our early race performance at Portland, but carry it to the end this time."

"The 25-kilos didn't seem to have too much effect on the yellow cars," said Jeff Giangrande, team owner. "Our increase air flow equaled 12 horsepower, not the 50 being talked about. It helps, but we are going up against the team that represents the largest car company in the world and that is quite a task."
