Problems for Conquest Endurance during qualifying at Baltimore

Baltimore, MD – August 31st, 2012 – The Conquest Endurance team narrowly missed out on pole position today for the Baltimore Sports Car Challenge after an engine accessory problem robbed Martin Plowman of precious power during his qualifying run and didn’t allow him to show the full potential of the #37 Conquest Endurance machine. Despite the setback Plowman managed to turn an impressive lap of 1m27.199s which left him only .08s shy of the pole position for the P2 category.

The day started out on a positive note when David Heineimeier Hansson lead the morning practice in the P2 category and was third overall in his first ever outing around the 2-mile street circuit. He then handed the car over to Plowman whose laps were cut short due to damage to the racecar caused by the aggressive bumps over the railroad tracks on the straightaway.

The ALMS officials decided to cancel most of the day’s practice sessions in order to address the problem with the track, and eventually decided to install a chicane in order to slow the car down before the bumps.

For the Conquest team tomorrow’s race will be an opportunity to score the team’s third win of the year and take over the points lead from Level 5 Motorsports. Plowman and Heinemeier Hansson have been consistently cutting down the points gap to the leaders and are only five points away coming into this weekend with three races to go in the 2012 season.

Without those issues we should’ve been easily on pole position, to miss out when we should’ve dominated its always a hard pill to swallow. But the team is working hard to fix the problem and I have no doubt that tomorrow we’ll have a strong race and we’ll be able to fight for another win.”

David Heinemeier Hansson Driver #37 Conquest Endurance / Morgan / Nissan Dunlop “We got the day started the right way, the car came off the truck with a great set up and it was very comfortable and very easy to get up to speed. Even though we only got to do a few laps we were quick right away. I actually really like this place, it’s a lot of fun to drive around it and I think the race will be very entertaining. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll figure out how to fix our problems and be ready to kick ass.”
