Flying Lizard Readies for Portland: Round Five of 2004 American Le Mans Series

July 23, 2004 - Portland, Ore.-- Flying Lizard Motorsports has landed at Portland International Raceway for the fifth round of the American Le Mans Series, the Portland Grand Prix, July 23-25. The Sonoma, California-based team runs two Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs in the GT class. Porsche No. 45, piloted by Johannes van Overbeek and co-driver Darren Law, arrives in Portland off of three consecutive podium finishes, including a second-place GT finish last weekend at Infineon Raceway. Porsche No. 44, driven by teammates Lonnie Pechnik and Seth Neiman, joins them this weekend on the 1.944-mile, 12-turn road course.

2004 is the team's first season in the ALMS, and they have progressed quickly through the first four races this year. van Overbeek and Law currently lead the GT Drivers' Championship points and the team is second overall in GT.

"I'm looking forward to being back on track in Portland. Both Darren and I have had great experiences here, going back to our first year in the ALMS in 1999. Make no mistake, though, it will be a challenging weekend. The GT field is very competitive, and managing through the heat in the 2-hour, 45-minute race is going to be rough on everyone," said van Overbeek.

"The team is coming off quite a weekend at Infineon," added teammate Pechnik. "We've had a few days rest and we're ready to go out there and drive. Our goal with the No. 44 is to have another solid race here, building off the foundation we created at Lime Rock and Infineon."

"Strategy played a big role in our success at Infineon," said team chief strategist Thomas Blam. "This will be a tough race, but we intend to keep the pressure on and make the right decisions at the right time on the track. Infineon was a learning experience for all of us; this weekend at Portland we need to build from that."

The Portland Grand Prix will be broadcast live in its entirety on SPEED Channel on Sunday, July 25 at 1 p.m. PDT. The ALMS Radio Web will have live coverage of the race online at www.americanlemans.com. Visit www.lizardms.com for Flying Lizard race information and photos.
