Petersen Motorsports / White Lightning Racing to appeal IMSA disallowance - Sebring 12 Hour results.
LAS VEGAS, March 20, 2003 -- Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing will appeal the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) decision to disallow the #31 Westward Ho Casino/ MMPIE/ PAWS/ Justice Brothers Porsche 911 GT3 RS from the running order of the 51st Annual Mobil1 12 Hours of Sebring. The alleged fuel capacity violation and subsequent disallowance by IMSA removed the car driven by Johnny Mowlem, Nic Jonsson and Craig Stanton from the final finishing order of the GT-class of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) season opener. The Michael Petersen-owned and Dale White-prepared entry exchanged the lead with the #23 Alex Job Racing Porsche several times during the central-Florida endurance classic, eventually finishing one lap behind in second place.
"We have already informed IMSA that we will be going through the official protest and appeal process," offered White while preparing to send equipment to France for the team's first 24 Hours of Le Mans later this summer. "Fuel capacity should never be an issue. Everyone knows what it is and everyone is very concerned about it. We are disputing the testing method. Mike and I feel that we have a very good case and the Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing entry will be reinstated in second-place in GT."
Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing began operation in the late 1980s competing in off-road endurance events. The duo of White and Petersen joined to win over 50 off-road truck victories including three-consecutive overall wins at the Baja 1000 and Baja 500 and four SCORE, SNORE and SODA championships. Since introducing the team to sports car racing, the team has scored victories in the Trans-Am Series, Speed Challenge Series and endurance sports car wins at Watkins Glen and at the Rolex 24 of Daytona.
