NGT Motorsport’s strong challenge for victory turned to heartbreak at Mosport

The No. 30 MOMO NGT Motorsport team of Henrique Cisneros and Sean Edwards had an epic battle for the lead and championship points in the GTC class at the American Le Mans Mosport Grand Prix race at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada today. However, their strong challenge to capture another victory turned to heartbreak for the team.

Starting second on the grid in class, Henrique Cisneros had a solid run in Round Five of 10 in the 2013 American Le Mans Series. He pitted on Lap 46 to turn the car over to co-driver Edwards. Edwards battled with other GTC contenders Jeroen Bleekemolen and Spencer Pumpelly for the top three positions and even led the race before pitting again under caution for fresh tires and fuel.

While battling on Lap 103 with just 15 minutes left in the race, Edwards was hit from behind by a GT car and ended up spinning off track, damaging the suspension. He was able to get the car back on track and to the pits but his quest for the victory was lost. The MOMO NGT team settled for a sixth place finish and lost their one point GTC class lead.

Championship points were still being calculated from the race results but unofficial calculations now place the MOMO NGT team in third place in the GTC class points championship. With the season now half over, the 2013 points championship chase will continue to be the focus for the popular team for the balance of the season.

Henrique Cisneros, No. 30 MOMO NGT Motorsport GTC class driver: “We are very disappointed in the results but we are looking forward to fighting back to first place. We ran a great race with many battles from start to finish. I started in second place and pitted second. Sean was in second with less than 15 minutes to go before the incident. It was very unfortunate.

He got punted by our driving coach Bryan Sellars with about 12 minutes to go. He pitted for tires and inspection damage and we sent him back out. We thought he was okay. As soon as he went out we realized the suspension was broken and we were 10-12 seconds off the pace.

We tried to make the best of it because we knew he needed to finish the race to try and get the most points possible. We ended up a lap down from the GTC winner, finishing sixth in class.”
