MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2006) -- Johnny Mowlem will be a part of the Zytek driver roster when the American Le Mans Series holds its final race of the 2006 season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
ALMS GT star Mowlem, who won a class victory in the GT2 class only two races ago, was part of the factory Zytek team that finished second overall in the Petit Le Mans. Team boss Trevor Foster was impressed by the Britain's performance at Atlanta.
"Johnny did an excellent job at Petit and, although he isn't a regular in a prototype, he brought all his experience into play," said Foster. "He got on it the moment he left the pits; the data shows he had the fastest out-lap of anyone during the race."
The team campaigns a Zytek 06S in the LMP1 class, the fastest cars in the ALMS series. Mowlem will share the driving duties with former Formula One driver Stefan Johansson.
Mowlem, who was racing a prototype for only the second time, said, "Finishing second on the podium at Petit Le Mans was one of the highlights of my racing career to date and I am delighted to be asked back to hopefully go one better at Laguna."
One of Britain's most successful and personable sports car drivers, Mowlem started his career behind the wheel at age 19. He was named the 2005 UK Reading Sports Personality of the Year, an honor reserved for the top sports performers in his region. A married father of two, Mowlem was raised in Majorca, Spain. He has earned university degrees in economics and Spanish. More information on Mowlem is available at www.johnnymowlem.com.
