The No.35 Risi Competizione-Calpont Team puts their Ferrari 360 Modena GT back on the podium for the third time
Ralf Kelleners paired with Anthony Lazzaro driving the Risi Competizione -Calpont Ferrari 360 Modena GT in the Toronto Grand Prix at Mosport Race on Sunday, August 17, 2003. Having had the chance to test the track in the beginning of the week, they were eager to meet the challenge of taking on the stiff competition they were about to face.
In the first 41minutes and 14 seconds of the race the Risi Competizione- Calpont Team was in 4th position in the GT class. At this point, with Kelleners behind the wheel, their fastest lap time was 1:21.275 after finishing 25 laps.
One hour, 14 minutes and 6 seconds into the race they had finished 41 laps. Their quickest lap time was 1:21.275. They had fought their way to 3rd position in their class.
1 hour, 53 minutes and 16 seconds into the race they had completed 67 laps and were holding the 3rd position in their class.
Dave Sims, The Team Manager of the No.35 Risi Competizione-Calpont Team said during the race:
"Right now we are just watching our fuel consumption carefully and are basically assessing the situation as Lucas Luhr has gone into the pit with his Alex Job Porsche."
They were still fighting their way up towards the front, and had now secured the 2nd place spot in their class in the 2nd hour, 6th minute, and 54 seconds into the contest. At this point in the competition they had done 76 laps.
Ralf Kelleners, No.35 Risi Competizione-Calpont Team Ferrari 360 Modena GT:
"We are having a very good race today and are giving it 100%. Anthony is driving right now and is in second position in our class. He is doing a good job of maintaining the gap. I just hope we can still be ahead of the other cars in our class at the end of the race. We have a fantastic car and I hope it's going to come together."
Dave Sims, Team Manager of the No. 35 Risi Competizione- Calpont Team:
"We aren't really worried about anything mechanically at this very moment. Sascha Maassen, who is behind us, is just flying and gaining some ground. We are trying to keep him at bay. It is touch-and-go as to whether we can still keep our second place in our class position."
As the race came to an end the team finished 2nd in class, and 10th position overall. They had completed 105 laps with a best-set time at 1:21.200.
Rick Mayer, Engineer, No. 35 Risi Competizione-Calpont Team Ferrari 360 Modena GT:
"We had a good race. Ralf ran a really good first stint and the yellow flag came out giving us a chance to fuel early. We only needed to make one stop under the green flag if necessary. Then, the second yellow flag came around which gave us the chance to do a driver change, putting Anthony in the car so that he could drive right through to the end of the race. Unfortunately for the Alex Job car, they had some problems that put them in the pit for a lap. This was unfortunate for Job's team but it resulted in our placing second in our class. We are very happy with our second place finish in this class and our first place finish amongst the non-factory GT teams."
Richard Taylor, Crew Chief, No.35 Risi Competizione-Calpont Team Ferrari 360 Modena GT:
"We were very pleased with the race. It went pretty much according to plan. We were happy with our pit stops and the overall mechanical stability of our car. We had worried about the problems we had had with the handling of the car before the race, but once the actual race started those problems seemed to go away."
