Gleason and Bunting finish ninth in GT Class Sunday in Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 17 - Chris Gleason of Johnstown, Pa. and Marc Bunting of Monkton, Md., finished a solid ninth in the GT class Sunday in the Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport at Mosport International Raceway, an American Le Mans Series (ALMS) race that was broadcast live on NBC.
The pair's bright blue Racers Group Porsche 911 GT3 RS #68 finished on the same lap and right ahead of a Ferrari driven by Iradj Alexander and Indy car drivers Stephan Gregoire and Eliseo Salazar after the two-hour-and-45-minute race.
Although Bunting didn't qualify as well as he'd hoped on Saturday, the car ran consistently and well on Sunday. Bunting drove for the first hour and a half of the race before Gleason got in and brought the car home. On Bunting's first pit stop for fuel and tires only he got boxed in and lost a couple of spots, but the team persevered for the strong top-10 finish.
"We ran good, consistent laps today but there was very little attrition in our class and we finished ninth," Gleason said after the race. "We stayed out of trouble and the car ran very well; the handling was fine; the brakes were fine; the engine was fine and our pit stops were fine. After the problems we had at Trois-Rivieres, this race was a little bit of redemption for us, I guess."
This is the fourth ALMS race in the last five weeks and there is another one next weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis.
Gleason said the busy schedule is taking its toll on everyone involved.
"It's a very busy time on the schedule right now with so many races coming in a row," he said. "Since we have Road America next weekend, the team is going right from this race to Wisconsin. With the big break after Sebring it seems like we're all just getting used to the car and each other now. We took the mechanics out to dinner on Friday, because it's important that we all get to know each other better. The whole endeavor is very intense, and it's very important to have confidence in each other and support each other."
This is Gleason's first year competing as a member of this particular team.
Gleason and Bunting's Porsche is sponsored by Gleason Financial, Monster Cable, mail2web.com, Carlsen Porsche, Adobe Road Winery and Rennlist.com.
Next weekend's race at Road America will be broadcast live on SPEED at 2 p.m. Eastern time next Sunday.
