NHLPA, RACECAR DRIVER JOHN GRAHAM ANNOUNCE LOGO AGREEMENT FOR UPCOMING LE MANS RACE
TORONTO (August 30, 2006) -- The National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) and Busch Nascar Series driver John Graham today announced that Graham will drive in an upcoming American Le Mans Series race with NHLPA logos adorning his car. The race takes place on the afternoon of Sunday, September 3, 2006 at Mosport International Raceway, just outside of Toronto, Ontario.
This agreement allows John Graham to prominently feature the distinctive NHLPA logo on the car that he will be racing at the Labour Day Grand Prix of Mosport, presented by Mobil 1.
"It is thrilling to have the opportunity to combine the two sports I enjoy so much," said Graham."The race at Mosport is one of my favourites, and having the NHLPA logo on my car will make it that much more memorable."
An avid hockey fan, Graham helped open the race-week festivities by playing in yesterday's Mosport-Pavilion Pro Charity Hockey Challenge. The game's proceeds were directed towards the Shoot For A Cure campaign, which is a cause aimed towards the American and Canadian Spinal Research Organizations. Joining Graham in the game were fellow drivers Ron Fellows, Gunnar Jeanette, Scott Maxwell and Tom Milner, as well as current and former NHLPA members includingNik Antropov, Mike Cammalleri, Anders Eriksson, Mike Johnson, Igor Korolev, Bryan Muir, Alex Ponikarovsky, Allan Rourke, Anthony Stewart, Igor Ulanov, and Jim Thomson.
The NHLPA, John Graham and other relevant parties are working towards an agreement that will include player images on Graham's race car in upcoming Busch Nascar Series races. This marks the second foray into the world of motor racing for the NHLPA. In 1998, the NHLPA was an associate sponsor for McCormack Motorsports in the 11-race Indy Racing League.
