Flying Lizard Finishes Third and Sixth in GT at Mosport
Aug. 8, 2004 - BOWMANVILLE, Ont. Canada--Flying Lizard Motorsports celebrated their fifth consecutive podium finish this season at the Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport today, with cars No. 45 and No. 44 finishing third and sixth, respectively, in the GT class. The Flying Lizard No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is currently in first place so far this season in Driver's Championship points in the GT class.
In today's race, Johannes van Overbeek started the team's No. 45 Porsche fifth on the GT grid and held the position through his stint. In the second half of the race, co-driver Darren Law gained two positions, bringing the No. 45 in to a third-place GT finish. Law commented on the day, "Johannes and I pushed as hard as we could. Unfortunately, the car was not handling as well today as it had been earlier in the week. But in the larger scheme of things, this is our fifth podium finish in a row--I'm really proud of the whole team and crew for making this possible."
Starting from the pole position after setting a GT track lap record on Saturday in qualifying, Lonnie Pechnik defended the No. 44 car's front-running GT position against the leading pack of Porsches for his stint. Teammate Seth Neiman took over halfway through the race, bringing the Porsche in to a solid sixth-place GT finish.
Pechnik added, "I was driving hard today and it was a good chase for the entire 1 hour and 20 minutes from some really tough competition. Overall, it was a great weekend, starting with our pole and ending with the No. 45's podium finish."
Next up for the Flying Lizard team is the Road America 500, Sunday Aug 22, in Elkhart Lake, WI. The race will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel at 2:00 pm Eastern Time and live on MotorsTV in the UK at 19:00 UK Time.
