Bad Weather Cancels Grand Prix of Mosport Qualifying; BMW Team PTG M3s to Start 4th and 10th
Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. - Sept. 2, 2006-- Bad weather forced the cancellation of today's qualifying session for Sunday's Grand Prix of Mosport. Starting positions were determined by the times set yesterday and in this morning's practice session. The No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 of Joey Hand and Bill Auberlen will start fourth with a lap of 1:18.879 minutes around the 2.46-mile, 10-turn Mosport International Raceway. The No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3 of Justin Marks and Bryan Sellers will start 10th based on a 1:20.533 minute lap.
Hand has been behind the wheel of the No. 21 BMW Team PTG M3 this weekend while the team awaits the arrival of co-driver Bill Auberlen from another BMW racing commitment. Hand set the fourth fastest GT2 time in yesterday's test session and looked to improve today. He said, "The No. 21 M3 is really good. Yokohama has improved their rain tires and we are really excited about that. I am not really happy about racing in the rain, but the car has been working well in the practice sessions. Bill (Auberlen) is on his way here from the race in Salt Lake City and I want to make sure that the car is ready. Both M3s have made progress since the last race - tires, chassis, everything. We never stop trying to improve and are always looking for a way to win."
Justin Marks has done the majority of driving this weekend in the No. 22 BMW Team PTG M3 he will share with Bryan Sellers. He said, "It was disappointing that the qualifying session was canceled because our M3 is pretty good. I think if we had run it a BMW would have been on the pole."
