Ohio Talent Poised for Success During American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio

DUBLIN, Ohio (June 22, 2004) - Ohio drivers will entertain their home state fans as they race for wins in a variety of series during the American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio, June 25-27.

The hottest race team from the Buckeye State right now is Intersport Racing of Dublin, competing in both the LMP1 and LMP2 classes of the American Le Mans Series. LMP1 driver and team owner Jon Field is a former LMP675 (now LMP2) series champion, having captured the crown in 2002 behind the strength of three wins in 10 starts. Teaming with son Clint, Field finished fourth at Mid-Ohio in 2002.

The second car from the Intersport stable will be piloted by Jon's son, Clint Field. The younger Field has recently added the title of 24 Hours of Le Mans winner to his already impressive resume. Between his Le Mans win less than two weeks ago and the return to his home track, Field still managed to find time to celebrate his 21st birthday.

"It's great that our next race is at home," Field said. "For us, it's really a big convenience, especially coming right from Le Mans. Our cars and equipment will get back from Le Mans and we're ready because we're right here."

Though the Field family and Intersport Racing compete in the weekend's feature class, a number of other drivers will be competing in the five support series participating over the weekend.

Heading that list is Michael Galati of Champion Racing, competing in the GT class of Speed World Challenge. The Olmsted native won the 2002 World Challenge GT race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, along with two SCCA National Championships at his home track. Galati finished second over the Memorial Day weekend at Lime Rock Park, and looks to move to the top of the podium in front of his home crowd.

"I love Mid-Ohio. It's such a great track and I've had a lot of success there," Galati said. We won last time we were there so hopefully we can do it again. It's going to be tough though, with the additional weight but we'll for sure give it our best shot. I'm excited to race there and I look forward to seeing a lot of family and friends who live close by to Mid-Ohio."

Chasing Galati's Audi RS 6 in the World Challenge class will be Canton residents Jim McCann and Mike McCann. The brothers will make their first World Challenge appearance at Mid-Ohio in Dodge Viper Coupes.

In the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship, Dick Rose of Powell and Ron Thomas of Galena are among the participants. Rose will be competing in his first round of the series since the opening weekend at Sebring International Raceway. Rose, Thomas and the rest of the Formula Ford 2000 field will race a doubleheader during the weekend event.
