J3 Racing Finishes Tenth at Mid-Ohio

Lexington, Ohio - J3 Racing drivers Justin Jackson and Tim Sugden finished their Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in tenth place following a scary wheel failure in round two of the American Le Mans Series at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course today.

Following a strong sixth place qualifying effort Justin Jackson started the number 79 Porsche from the eighth row. Jackson was able to keep pace with the GT field running strong in eighth position. Coming up to the first caution, Jackson picked up two places to run in sixth before handing over to teammate Sugden. "I was doing good lap times and running strong until I was passed under yellow by the lead Audi. I went and passed him back, but IMSA didn't see the situation the same as I did and brought me in for a stop-and-go penalty. This turned out to be a good thing, as a result we did not go a lap down and we ended up being 40-seconds back. Tim was doing a good job and looked to be gaining some positions when the wheel problem hit. We came away with a top 10 and the car will be ready for Lime Rock."

Upon turning the car over to Sugden, the team moved up to fifth place with an eye on a podium finish. Then on lap 87, the Leeds, England driver was coming through turn 12 when the wheel broke on the left rear of the car. Sugden was able to get the car stopped and off of the racing line. "It was a pretty scary moment! I was starting to settle into a nice pace and then bang, no warning the car just drops on the rear and it was over. I am lucky that it wasn't in a really fast part of the circuit where I could have collected someone else and hurt myself and the car."

The team was still able to finish in tenth place keeping both drivers in the top ten in series points.

Round three of the American Le Mans Series will be July 5 at Lime Rock Park.
