J3 Racing Finishes Third at Mid-Ohio
Lexington, Ohio - J3 Racing drivers Justin Jackson and Tim Sugden drover their number 79/J3 Racing/Porsche 911 RSR to a third place finish in GT2 in round three of the American Le Mans Series race run at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course today.
This finish marks the team's second podium result on the season, the first being another third place effort at the season opener in Sebring.
In qualifying, Tim Sugden posted a time of 1:24.186 with an average speed of 97 mph, this was good for a fifth place starting position in GT2.
Justin Jackson started the car for the two-hour and forty-five minute race. Jackson had a good start and was able to race his way up to third place. Handing over to teammate Sugden, the car continued to run competitively. A pit stop proved to be tough on the Buford, Georgia based team. A slight miscue in the pits resulted in a 60-second penalty costing the team a lap and sure second place finish. An eventual rain shower caught-up with Sugden on the track with six laps remaining, but the Englishman was able to bring the car home on slick tires in third.
"The track was really slick today, not a lot of grip," said Justin Jackson. "The first hour of the race, people were every where. I had a good stint, I was able to maintain a rhythm, avoid the accidents and run in third for a while. The car was pretty good, we still have some work to do on the handling, but we have some time now before Lime Rock to get it right."
"We had a second place car today," said Tim Sugden. "The penalty really hurt us and we were lucky at the end when the car in front of us went off. It was a survival race today, we kept it on the track and when the rain came it was like ice out there. Justin did a good job to get the car up there in contention and the team's strategy was sound, all good things for the future."
Mark Hupfer drove his number 79/J3 Porsche 911 Cup car to a fourth place finish in the Porsche Cup event today completing a successful weekend for the J3 team.
The next event for the team will be at Lime Rock Park in Connecticutt on July 4th.
