PATRON HIGHCROFT RACING ONLY .069 OF A SECOND FROM THE MID-OHIO POLE

LEXINGTON, OH, Friday, August 7, 2009: Patron Highcroft Racing's David Brabham just fell short in the fight for pole position by only .069 of a second in a classic battle at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course today.

In his first run, Brabham set a fastest time of 1 minute, 9.512 seconds to top the timesheet only to be just beaten by the sister Acura of Gil de Ferran who stopped the clocks at 1:09.450.

The .069 of a second margin equates to a mere 9.8 feet of the 2.5 mile circuit.

Patron Highcroft Racing topped up the fuel on the #9 Acura ARX-02a and made a small suspension adjustment to try to grab back the pole but Brabham fell short on his second attempt - recording a time of 1:09.580.

All teams experienced a dramatic fall in track times as more rubber was laid down. Today's pole was 2.5 seconds faster than the quick time laid down by Brabham and team-mate Scott Sharp in yesterday's testing session.

The result mirrored last year's qualifying result when the two teams also shared the front row.

Tomorrow's 2 hour, 45 minute Acura Sports Car Challenge is the sixth round of the 2009 American Le Mans Series.

With five races already completed, Patron Highcroft Racing leads the LMP1 championship by 13 points.

SCOTT SHARP

"It was a good day overall. We had ever changing track conditions and they are about to change again with the IndyCar guys heading out on track for the first time.

"The team did a great job. We talked about changes between practice and qualifying and those all seemed to work a little bit better.

"But man, it doesn't get much closer than that - only .069 of a second.

"It will be a dog fight tomorrow but we are making all the right moves and we just have to go out and execute tomorrow.

"The start tomorrow will be interesting but we just have to concentrate on doing what we have been doing.

"We don't need to change much. But for a bit of luck, we should have won the last race so we just have to carry on."

DAVID BRABHAM

"Well done to Gil, I know how hard I was trying out there and I am sure he must be out of breath.

"I was up a little bit on my second run but just picked up a bit of understeer.

"The two cars are so close it is unbelievable. The LMP2 cars are not too far behind so I think we are going to have a great race.

"It would have been nice the other way around but we certainly have some direction for the race tomorrow.

"The car was a lot better than the previous practice sessions but we will take a look at the final change we made and see where the understeer came from.

"Last year the LMP2 car got better and better as the stint continued, so hopefully the LMP1 Acura will be the same.

"The track is starting to rubber up so I think tomorrow should be even quicker."
