Ragginger joins Henzler in Farnbacher Loles Porsche at Mid-Ohio
Porsche Junior driver Martin Ragginger will be making his Farnbacher Loles Racing debut behind the wheel of the #87 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR at the Mid-Ohio round of the American Le Mans Series. The 21- year old Austrian will be co-driving with Porsche factory driver Wolf Henzler, who is the defending champion in the ALMS GT2 Class. Henzler's regular co-driver Dirk Werner is off racing another Farnbacher Loles Porsche opening the door for Ragginger to show off his talents to the ALMS fans.
The #87 Porsche has been very fast this season, with two poles in the first four races including the season opener at Sebring. Podiums have been elusive though, with a best finish of second place at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. Henzler is determined to get the #87 up front in Mid-Ohio, a track he enjoys and has had considerable success at. In 2006, Henzler set the pole and took a flag to flag victory in a Farnbacher Loles Porsche at the Lexington, Ohio road course. That same year, he won the GT2 Class in the American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio race in another Porsche.
Ragginger's early success like most European racers was in karting, but he caught the eye of Porsche Motorsport and has been a UPS Porsche Junior Team since 2007. He is a stand-out on the Porsche SuperCup circuit, which also brought Henzler to the world stage as part of the German-based Farnbacher Racing team.
Team principal Gregory Loles looks to this event as a good opportunity for the team to grab another podium. "Wolf is always quick, but he is especially good at Mid-Ohio. And we know Martin will be on pace based on what he has done in an RSR in Europe. There is increased competition now with the debut of the new Corvette in GT2, but we feel confident in the ability of both the drivers and the crew. It should be an exciting race."
The 2 hour and 45 minute Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio starts at 3pm on Saturday, August 8th EDT. NBC will broadcast the race on Sunday, August 9th at 2:30pm EDT.
