EXTREME SPEED MOTORSPORTS NO.01 FERRARI FINISHES IN 5th POSITION AT MID-OHIO SPORTS CAR CHALLENGE
Late Race Scuffle Knocks 02 Car out of Competition
Lexington, Ohio /// August 7, 2010 /// Beautiful weather conditions created a great day of world class racing today at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge Round 6 of the highly competitive American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patrón.
For the Extreme Speed Motorsports team, drivers Scott Sharp, Johannes van Overbeek, Ed Brown and Guy Cosmo delivered another impressive performance today for a new team. Sharp and van Overbeek, behind the wheel of the teams No.01 Ferrari F430 GT, placed 5th in the GT class. Brown and Cosmo expertly maneuvered their 02 Ferrari around the 2.258-mile 13-turn road course until a clash with the No.61 Risi Competizione Ferrari in Turn 9 in the last minutes of the race knocked the car (with Brown driving) out of the competition. The 02 Ferrari finished the race in the 11th position in the GT class.
"Overall it was a rougher weekend than we expected," said team owner Sharp after the 2-hour 45-minute race this afternoon. "But the team did a great job, and we made some good changes that improved our performance. Were gaining on it 5th place is better than 6th!"
"Our 01 team had a terrific top five finish today, and Guy did an unbelievable job out there too. I was running well also, in a good pack with the other cars, but these things happen. Its a competitive sport," said Ed Brown, commenting on the hit he took to his cars left rear that forced him out of the race.
Cosmo is a race record-holder in Mid-Ohio (for fastest lap in the GTC series, which he set in 2009 in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup). Johannes van Overbeek is also no stranger to this picturesque Ohio track, midway between Columbus and Cleveland. He is a 3-time winner at Mid-Ohio, and was one of only two drivers here today who has won more than twice.
The ESM Ferraris are running on cellulosic E85R biofuel. The switch to alternative fuels not only helps the performance of the cars, its also in line with the American Le Mans Series global leadership of Green Racing.
The next race in the American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patrón will be at 2:05pm CT on Sunday, August 22 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI.
