Muscle Milk Team CytoSport keeps podium streak alive at Long Beach

Long Beach, CA (April 17, 2010) - Muscle Milk Team CytoSport came into Long Beach this weekend with the goal of keeping its podium streak alive against a tough field of competition and that's exactly what the team did - all while remaining atop the points standings.

With a strong performance by both Greg Pickett and Klaus Graf, Muscle Milk Team CytoSport claimed a sixth podium finish in a row on the strength of a third place finish at Saturday's Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series at Long Beach race. As an added bonus, the team also won the Prototype class Michelin Green X Challenge, an award given to the team that demonstrates the best overall performance and fuel efficiency with the least environmental impact.

Pickett, who was behind the wheel of the Porsche RS Spyder to start the race, lost a couple of positions in the opening laps of the one hour and 40 minute event. But the Trans-Am legend, with a podium finish in the back of his mind, put in lap times as fast and sometimes faster than the cars ahead.

By the time the first round of pit stops came around, while under a caution period, Pickett was sitting seventh overall. On lap 37 Graf took over driving duties of the Michelin clad Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder and jumped up to second upon exiting pit lane thanks to a great job by the Muscle Milk crew during fueling, tire change and driver swap.

Porsche RS Spyder on track at LB The German was able to maintain his second place on the restart but the faster Aston Martin of Adrian Fernandez got by him before the end of the front straightaway, relegating him to third.

Without radio communication and with 30 minutes left in what became a sprint race to the finish, Graf kept the Dyson Racing car behind him and continued to push hard to the checkered flag, giving the team its sixth podium in as many races since last season.

Muscle Milk Team CytoSport will now return to their shop in Benicia, California as they prepare for another home event, the American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Patron at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca from May 21-23, 2010.

What they have to say:

Greg Pickett, Owner / Driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder

"It was very difficult out there. Some stuff got down on the track and I almost lost it in Turn 11. Things were a little hectic at times. This is a tough place, and it's very busy. My hats are off to the Highcroft guys they have been successful here in the past and their car is really well suited here. We're happy to come out here with the points that we got. I'm very proud of the team. We had a great pit stop, we came in seventh and went out second so that's a real credit to the team. We're coming together real well. I'm looking forward to getting to Monterey in a six-hour race because that's where the Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder and this team are really going to shine. I'm also very happy that we won our first Michelin Green X Challenge. Michelin is a wonderful partner of ours and what they do with the Green X Challenge is a great thing."

Klaus Graf, Driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder

"I think we came out with the maximum, P3, I couldn't be happier. I really, really, pushed very, very hard in my stint in the Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder and we had a great pit stop by the guys. We came out second, we had a good driver change, we were very quick on the tire change and I was able to leave right away and that was very good. We knew that that was the key at this race to get a good result. With the limited running time and this track, with the schedule and everything, it's really difficult. It was difficult for Greg as well to start here with very little running and in different track conditions. Everybody on the team did a fantastic job and it paid off. We're still leading the points and we won the Michelin Green X Challenge, so it's fantastic, a great day."

Geoffrey Carter, Team Manager, #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder

"I couldn't be more proud of the guys, the pit crew today. We came into Long Beach with the eye on the podium, hoping to keep our streak alive in the ALMS. We had two different strategies heading into the race. We ended up keeping Greg in the car longer than our original plan but the race came to us. Greg held his own and kept the podium in sight during his stint. Then the guys did a great pit stop, sending the car back out in second place which was huge. We had a radio problem and we couldn't talk to Klaus so before he got in the car I told him he just had to push and he ran qualifying laps the entire time. The guys in the pits and Klaus and Greg just keeping it all together did a great job and our Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder ran great and we won the Michelin Green X Challenge, I think we couldn't really ask for more from this race."
