September 12, 2012 – Alton, VA – The Lizards continue the final east coast swing of the 2012 ALMS season with the inaugural VIR 240 race at Virginia International Raceway. This will be the ALMS' first time competing at the beautiful circuit in Southern Virginia. The four-hour event gets the green flag Saturday, Sept 15 at 2:30 pm Eastern Time.
The driver lineup is Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long in the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and Marco Holzer and Seth Neiman in the No. 44.
With just two races to go in the 10-race ALMS season, Bergmeister and Long are sixth in the ALMS GT drivers' championship with 81 points. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner of the No. 4 Corvette lead with 124 points. The Lizards are third in the team championship with 92 points; Corvette Racing leads with 145 points. There are 46 points possible left in the season.
Flying Lizard chief strategist Thomas Blam gave his perspective on Saturday's race: "VIR is a fast track, but narrow, and some sections will demand single-file racing through the corners, at least initially. Everyone will just have to be patient in managing traffic until they can find a place to pass. We're happy to be back to the longer race format: hopefully we can use the additional pit stops to our advantage since we've had fast, consistent stops all season. The Lizards had a successful test here last week and I'm cautiously optimistic about the race. At Road America (the last high-speed track that we ran) we had a front-row starting position and I expect we'll have a similar pace here."
