Maserati visits Lime Rock Park
Over the July 4th weekend Maserati will compete in round four of the American Le Mans Series, The New England Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut.
This is the first visit by the team to this historic facility located in the southern Berkshire region 2 hours north of New York City. The track is relatively tight and technical, providing a good challenge for the MC12. In today's practice the drivers concentrated on familiarizing themselves with the course, while the team worked on the set up of the car. Modifications were made to the front suspension and anti-roll bar towards the end of the session. Development will continue through the practice time on Saturday morning.
Maserati competes with an MC12 in compliance with the rules of IMSA. The car matches FIA GT1 specifications and carries a ballast of 10 kilos. The team will not score points for the Championship.
The drivers are Italians Andrea Bertolini - Ferrari-Maserati official tester and Fabio Babini.
The New England Grand Prix will start on Monday July 4, May 22 at 3pm and complete at
6 pm. Live television coverage is provided by Speed Channel in the United States and Motors TV in Europe.
Andrea Bertolini: "This is the first time all of us are on this circuit. As expected- we worked on the balance of the car- with focus on the suspension. This is a very tight circuit, so attention was paid to trying to dial the car in from the start."
Fabio Babini: "It is really important to get the set up of the car right from the start at this track. I did 20 laps and found the car easy to drive, so I am optimistic that we will find a good set up. The track keeps the driver busy at all times so you are always busy!
The participation of Maserati in the ALMS has been made possible thanks to the fundamental co-operation of important partners, including Pirelli and team Risi Competizione, that support Maserati logistically. The MC12 is using Pirelli Racing P Zero tires, developed in 2004 and currently used on an exclusive basis in the FIA GT Championship. The successful cooperation between Maserati and Pirelli continues in the American Le Mans Series.
