J3 Racing Finishes Fifth in GT2 at Lime Rock
Lime Rock, Connecticut - J3 Racing drivers Justin Jackson and Tim Sugden drove their number 79/J3 Racing/Porsche 911 RSR to fifth place in GT2 in round four of the American Le Mans Series race at Lime Rock Park today.
The J3 crew started the weekend on a high note, pacing most of the practice in GT2 on Friday. Sugden qualified the car on Saturday, posting a time of 55.161 with an average speed of 100 mph good for a ninth place starting position. "After we had done really well in practice, finishing the day on Friday in second on the time sheet and running at the top on Saturday morning I had hoped for a good qualifying run," said Sugden. "When I went out to qualify it felt like we had a suspension or tire problem. It ended up being a tire with smaller stagger."
Justin Jackson started the car and was able to maintain position in a traffic and incident filled race. "I had a good start and was able to move up a little. When the first yellow came out, the leading Audi had just caught me in the previous corner and that put us down a lap. The car was good; there was a lot of debris on the track. I was hit in the rear by a Corvette going into turn one, he just got in too hot and lost grip."
Teammate Tim Sugden took over the driving duties and was able to move it up to fifth by the end of this stint. "For some reason the car started out kind of tight. Halfway through my stint it got better and was actually really good at the end. Toward the end of the race when the Panoz got in trouble I was right behind the Lizard car and he nearly stopped and then I got into the back of him. It was tough going down a lap early, the track is just too short to try and makeup time. Fifth isn't bad for the day we had."
The next event for J3 will be at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California on July 17th.
