Highcroft Racing Poised For Saturday's Race at Lime Rock
DANBURY, Conn., June 29 - Duncan Dayton of Danbury, Conn., who finished fourth in his class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans earlier this month, and Andy Wallace of Buckingham, England, who won the same class at the same race, will share Highcroft Racing's Lola EX257 AER, No. 9, in Saturday's American Le Mans Series (ALMS) race at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn.
The Danbury, Conn.-based car is one of five entered in the ALMS' top class, LMP1, in the 24-car race.
The event will be televised on CBS on a tape-delayed basis Sunday at 4 p.m. Eastern time.
Dayton is looking forward to competing at what is the team's home track, since it's nearest to its headquarters. "It's fun for our whole team, since many of our family and friends will be there," he said.
"Lime Rock is a very challenging track," he added of the 1.54-mile, eight-turn road course. "Our goal in the race will be to try to stay out of trouble and finish."
"I do like Lime Rock, but it's a very tricky place," Wallace concurred. "The grip level is intermittent due to the differences in the track surface between the concrete patches and the asphalt. It's a great event; there are always people everywhere!"
Wallace will head for Connecticut after competing in tonight's Rolex Series race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway with another team.
ALMS practice at Lime Rock starts at 10:55 a.m. Friday, with qualifying for the LMP1 division at 4:10 p.m. that afternoon. There's an autograph session at 11:20 a.m. Saturday before the two-hour-and-45-minute featured race begins at 3 p.m. that day.
In addition to this weekend's race at Lime Rock, Wallace will drive for Highcroft Racing at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah July 13-15; Portland International Raceway in Portland, Ore. July 20-22; Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. Aug. 17-20 and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif. Oct. 19-21.
