TIME FOR BERNHARD'S BREAKTHROUGH AT MONTEREY?

Not much has gone wrong this year for Timo Bernhard. He and Romain Dumas have seven LMP2 wins in the American Le Mans Series this season, six of them overall victories. The duo also wrapped up the class championship at Petit Le Mans two weeks ago, Bernhard's second.

There is one thing left to check off his list for 2007 - win the Monterey Sports Car Championships on Saturday and score his first victory at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Bernhard has 24 career Series wins to his credit but none on the Monterey Peninsula He has finished second twice (2006 in P2 and 2004 in GT), and owns one class pole position and two fastest race laps during that span.

"In GT cars, this always was my favorite track," Bernhard said. "For some reason I just never have had luck here. From 2002-2005 I was leading the race before getting bumped off or having something else happen. Hopefully this is the year."
