The Racer's Group returns to "second home" for the Monterey Sports Car Championships.
SONOMA, Calif. - Sept. 16, 2002 - The Racer's Group will make the trip to the track where it all began for the team at this weekend's American Le Mans Series race, the Monterey Sports Car Championships at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS will be driven by team owner and driver Kevin Buckler and co-driver Brian Cunningham. The Racer's Group's second car, No. 67, will be piloted by professional driver Michael Schrom and local professional driver Vic Rice of San Rafael, Calif.
The Racer's Group's humble beginnings started in the hills across from the track in 1993 where Buckler and his wife Debra started the company from the shop in their garage. After two years of growing the business in the Monterey Bay area, the Bucklers purchased some space at Sears Point Raceway and moved The Racer's Group to Sonoma. Buckler has spent many race days at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and considers it to be his first home track.
"We all just love coming here to race," Buckler said. "The Monterey Peninsula is magic and I know we will live here again at some point. I've always loved Laguna, it is one of the finest natural terrain circuits in the world. Racing at Laguna is like a perfect day of powder skiing. It requires a smooth yet aggressive driving style. Our cars and drivers will all be ready for a good race."
The green flag will drop at noon on Sunday, September 22 and the two hour, 45-minute race will be televised live on NBC.
