Weaver 2nd, Wallace 4th in Laguna Seca ALMS Qualifying

MONTEREY, CA, SEPTEMBER 6-- Thetford / Norcold Dyson Racing's James Weaver and Andy Wallace put in storming qualifying performances today at Laguna Seca to end up second and fourth on the grid.

Driving the #16 MG-Lola EX257, Weaver's best lap of 1:16.55 (105.24 mph) was less than four-tenths off the polesitting Audi of Frank Biela. The Englishman was delighted to qualify the #16 car on the front row for the fifth time in seven races this year.

"I'm pleased with the lap," Weaver said afterwards. "I'm confident that Goodyear's tires should be up for a strong race pace here tomorrow. The car's gotten better and better all weekend, and there's more to come." Weaver will share the #16 car with Butch Leitzinger, with whom he shared in victory at Infineon Raceway in July.

Wallace's lap of 1:17.6 (103.73 mph) was a stellar effort considering his weekend so far in the #20 machine. He and teammate Chris Dyson had been fighting severe understeer all weekend, and the team discovered a problem in the differential in the practice session immediately before qualifying. The team made a quick fix, and Wallace was happier with the car, but a more through repair will be taking place overnight for Sunday's race.

"The car still had some understeer in some of the higher speed corners," Wallace said, "but it was still better. It's a relief to find out what's causing a problem, because we've been a little confused most of this weekend as to the source of the understeer. I think I did the best the car could have done out there, and there's obviously some more pace left once we have the diff problem corrected."

Sunday's two-hour, forty-five minute event will be televised live on NBC Sports. Live timing and scoring, as well as Radio Le Mans, will be available on www.americanlemans.com.
