Disappointment at Mid Distance For Creation

After a thrilling opening hour, during which the Creation Autosportif DBA-Zytek led the field for all but one lap, there was extreme disappointment for the team at mid point in the four-hour race.

While a sticking throttle had necessitated Jamie Campbell-Walter to bring the car behind the wall, it was the failure of the water pressure relief valve which caused the engine to overheat, and consequently start to seize the throttle. This eventually led to the failure of the water pump and the car was retired from the race.

Nicolas Minassian, who had taken the fight to the Audis from the start and demonstrated the real performance of the 3.4 litre engined car, voiced the disappointment of every team member: "It's disappointing as every endurance race is there for finishing, and unfortunately this is the second time in a row we didn't finish. We were very competitive though and everybody put a lot of effort into it so right now we are a little low. I think the team showed their commitment though and we did a good job. We now have to sit down and work out where these problems are coming from and really sort them out. This year, all right, we have had to take them on the chin but next year we want to be winning."

The Frenchman's views were echoed by his team-mate, Jamie Campbell-Walter, who only managed to complete one lap before the sticking throttle brought him back to the pits. "It's such a shame, disappointing more than anything. Nic drove fantastically well and really showed what the car can do. I think he gave Audi and JJ [Lehto] a shock when he overtook him twice at the hairpin! We are a small team, probably not much bigger than the Audi hospitality team in reality, and we showed that they could be beaten. Now we have to start work developing the car for 2005 so that we can start winning races. After all, this is the first year for the car with Creation. I think we've turned a few heads this week so we should be proud of that."
