TAVARES, Fla. -- Sept. 4, 2003 -- After a weekend off during the busy American Le Mans Series race season, Florida-based Alex Job Racing will travel across the country to compete at the Monterey Sports Car Championships on Sept. 5-7. The No. 23 McKenna Porsche/Porsche 911 GT3 RS racing machines will be piloted by Lucas Luhr of Monaco and Sascha Maassen of Raeren, Belgium. Bergmeister of Langenfeld, Germany and Timo Bernhard of Miesau, Germany will co-drive the No. 24 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
The 2.238-mile scenic Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif. is a favorite U.S. circuit for the German squad. "I like driving at Laguna because it's such a beautiful track and it sits nicely on top of a hill. It is by far my favorite track in America. There are many elevation changes and fast downhill corners makes good fun. The corkscrew is good too! My co-driver Lucas and I finished first last year and maybe we can do that again this weekend," No. 23 driver Maassen commented.
Alex Job Racing has had many successful ALMS races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, most recently a first place GT class finish in 2002, third in class in 2001 and second in 2000.
"I always love to come to Laguna. It's a beautiful race trackin a beautiful part of the country. The first time I arrived to Laguna driving the race car transporter, I was astonished with the elevation climb into the track. This iscertainly an impressive entrance to a race track. I'm looking forward to the weekend," team owner Alex Job said.
With only three races left in the 2003 season, Alex Job Racing is the top contender in the GT team championship points. Luhr and Maassen lead the GT driver points with teammates Bergmeister and Bernhard in a close second.
Based in Tavares, Fla., Alex Job Racing serves as a race prep, chassis-building and tuning facility. On a day-to-day basis, team owners Alex and Holly Job are involved in the growth and administrative functions of the team and business.
