Morning Free Practice
Guy Smith started the session in the no.18 Gulf sponsored privateer Audi R8 of Johansson Motorsport. Taking the wheel for the second time this week having completed only a familiarisation run on Monday, Guy was straight on the pace setting his best lap of 1:52.450 and consistently lapped in the 1:53 second bracket.
"This was my second run in the car and I really enjoyed it, the car is fantastic, in traffic I had no problems holding onto one of the works cars." Guy Smith
Stefan Johansson drove the no. 18 car for the second half of the session setting a time of 1:51.407 to take second position.
"The car was very good this morning, we have a little push that we need to work on, but I think we are in good shape. This afternoon we will continue to work on a race set-up, it would be nice to go for the pole but for us the race set-up is more important" Stefan Johansson.
Stefan qualified the no.18 car in fourth position for the 49th Annual Superflo 12 Hrs of Sebring with a time of 1:50.903.
"I made a small mistake on my first flying lap, locking up the fronts and running wide picking up some dirt on the tyre, that lap should have been quicker, but at this race qualifying is not that important. We are still learning with every lap about the Audi R8 which is just a great car and we will keep working on our race set- up for Saturday" Stefan Johansson.
Stefan Johansson drove the no. 18 Gulf Oil sponsored Audi R8, for the duration of the one hour session, setting the third fastest time of 1:51.073.
The Johansson team have focused on gaining as much information as possible about the stunning Audi R8 in the limited running that has been available since taking delivery of the car only ten days ago.
Setting the fastest time of the first session on Monday and always being very much on the pace of the other Audis present for The 49th Annual Superflo 12 Hrs of Sebring, the team and drivers are looking forward to the challenge of the race, which starts at 10.40 local time on Saturday 17th March.
" In the few days that we have had to work with the car and Audi we are very pleased with our situation, it has been very hard work for the lads but they have done a great job. We will continue to try a few things with the car in Saturdays warm up, but I think we are looking quite good. Stefan set competitive times today on very used tyres so it should be a good race on Saturday" Mike Earle, Team Director.
" Every time I drive the R8 it impresses me more, the car is very good. But like all racing cars once you are looking for the last little bit you have to work hard. My time this morning on used tyres was good and for sure there was more to come if we had a clear lap. Guy has had enough time in the car to get a good feeling for it and he will be straight on it as well, so I am looking forward to starting the race and getting on with it" Stefan Johansson.
