Corvettes to be showcased during Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix
DETROIT, MI (August 17, 2007) -- Corvette owners can not only see, but be seen August 31-September 2, 2007 at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. The Grand Prix is offering all Corvette owners the opportunity to showcase their shimmering piece of Detroit engineering over Labor Day weekend in the Corvette Car Corral on Belle Isle. This special opportunity includes a parking spot in the Corvette Car Corral, a reserved grandstand ticket, paddock pass and $20 worth of Grand Prix dollars that are redeemable at concession stands.
The Car Corral will offer the only on-island public parking for ticket holders, located just steps from the midway area and ticket gates, and feature a number of Corvette-specific activities. In addition to the right to park on the island, each day 100 Corvettes from the corral will get the opportunity to drive on the actual 2.1-mile race circuit at Belle Isle.
The Corvette will play a prominent role in other race weekend activities as the Official Vehicle of the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. The 2007 Corvette Z06 will pace Saturday's American Le Mans Series race -- the Detroit Sports Car Challenge presented by Bosch -- and lead parade laps to start Sunday's Detroit Indy Grand Prix presented by Firestone, featuring the cars of the IndyCar Series.
"We are proud that the Corvette -- America's truly iconic sports car -- will have such a strong presence as the Official Vehicle of the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix," said Corvette Marketing Manager Gary Claudio. "It is only fitting that one of Detroit's most recognizable symbols is deeply involved in the return of world-class auto racing to the Motor City -- the home of both Corvette and General Motors."
The Corvette Car Corral has a limited number of spaces and spots are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The special schedule of events includes celebrity car shows, Q&As with GM engineers, technical inspections and others.
Spots in the corral can be purchased for $75 for a single-day pass, $150 for a two-day package or $200 for a three-day pass. This price includes the parking spot, ticket, paddock pass and $20 in Grand Prix bucks per day. Orders can be made by calling the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix at (313) 262-1802 or by downloading the Corvette Car Corral Order Form at www.detroitgp.coms and returning it to the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, Attention: Laura Fisher, via fax (313-262-1799) or through the mail to the following address: Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, 300 Renaissance Center, Suite 2311, Detroit, MI 48243.
