Alex Job Racing Wins GT2 in Houston
Houston, Texas -- Alex Job Racing won the GT2 class under the lights in round two of the American Le Mans Series Grand Prix of Houston. Mike Rockenfeller and Klaus Graf braved the concrete caverns of the parking area of Reliant Park to post the team's first win of the young 2006 season. This marks Alex Job Racing 50th professional road racing win and 37th ALMS series team win.
Mike Rockenfeller started tthe number 23/Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/hirewise/Porsche 911 RSR from the last row on the grid. The team's fourth place qualifying session was negated due to the decision to start on new tires as opposed to those that they qualified on yesterday. Rockenfeller wasted no time raging to the front of the GT2 field. Within 16-laps he was in second place, within a second of the class lead. On lap 55 the leading Ferrari pitted and the young German assumed the lead.
Turning over to Klaus Graf on lap 75 for the team's only pit stop, the AJR crew was able to return the veteran road racer to the GT2 lead. From that point, Graf ran fast and consistent lap times to increase the distance to second place by a lap at the end of the race.
Mike Rockenfeller had the drive of the day. "It was tough out there with the bumps and the heat early on in the race. I was just pushing and pushing to catch the Ferrari from back of the grid. I finally caught up to him within one second and then he pitted and we took over the lead. Klaus did a great job to increase the lead and bring it home for our first win together."
Klaus Graf put in a great drive to bring home the victory. "The car was really good and there was a lot left for the last stint. I was able to increase our lead to second place and give the team a much deserved victory. We had a tough race at Sebring so this win brings us back into contention in the points chase going into Mid-Ohio in seven just days."
"Mike did a great job to bring us back up from dead last and into the lead in his stint," said Alex Job. "Klaus was able to get in and close the deal for us tonight. We had some new crew members on the team and put together a great pit stop to get us out in the front and keep the lead. This marks the teams 50th professional road racing win."
