HENZLER NAMED PORSCHE FACTORY DRIVER; WILL DRIVE FOR ALMS LIZARDS
ATLANTA -- February 5 - Wolf Henzler from Nuertingen, Germany, will be starting the 2008 motorsports season for Dr. Ing h.c. F. Porsche AG as a factory driver.
Henzler will be at the wheel of a Flying Lizard Motorsports' Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the American Le Mans Series. In 2006, while driving for the Lizards and Tafel Racing, Henzler was awarded the Porsche Cup as most successful driver of a private Porsche racing car. Henzler, who holds a master's degree in business administration and computer science, has been racing Porsche cars since 2000.
"I am very glad we have succeeded in adding additional strength to our team of works drivers by hiring Wolf Henzler. I have been following his career for years now. I value his consistency, his experience and his basic turn of speed," said Hartmut Kristen, Porsche's worldwide head of motorsport.
Among other events in the 2007 season, Henzler started for the Tafel Racing Team in the American Le Mans Series, earning six podium finishes in the GT2 class, resulting in a third place championship position at the end of the year. In 2005, Henzler almost won the SPEED World Challenge series, winning two races, four pole positions, and losing out on the championship in the final laps of the final race, and he co-drove to the GT class victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona -- both for Farnbacher Loles; in 2004 he dominated the Porsche Supercup, gaining nine victories in twelve races to secure the champion's title in dominant fashion. All these successes were achieved in Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars.
