Did you know?... Goodyear-shod cars have scored a class or overall victory in every major sports car race this season. Team Corvette, using the Goodyear-equipped Chevrolet Corvette C5-R, won the overall victory in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and won GTS class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Konrad Team Saleen, with a Goodyear-mounted Saleen S7R, won the GTS class in the Superflo 12 Hours at Sebring.
Bob Shaffer, Marketing Manager, Sports Car Racing - "The wonderful track at Sears Point Raceway offers a number of challenges. This is a great place to restart the American Le Mans Series schedule. We know our racing partners, Corvette Racing and Konrad Motorsports, will be very competitive in GTS. After their overall victory in the 2001 Daytona 24 Hour and the second place finish in the GTS class at the 12 Hours at Sebring, the C5-R Corvette continued it's strong performance by winning the biggest prize in motorsports, a class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. "
The number of different divisions of racecars at Sonoma means Goodyear will bring tires of many different sizes and compounds to the event. Toss in the fact that this is a sprint race instead of an endurance race and you have tremendous need for proper tire selection.
Goodyear drivers Terry Borcheller, Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connell, Andy Pilgrim and Kelly Collins fill the first five positions in the American Le Mans Series GTS points standings, in that order, going into the X-Factor Grand Prix of Sonoma.
This will be a timed event with a length of two hours, 45 minutes.
