GAVIN RUNNING TO HELP BATTLE CYSTIC FIBROSIS

Like any other member of Corvette Racing, Oliver Gavin races to win. The English star has won three American Le Mans Series championships, four class titles at both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 12 Hours of Sebring. Next month, however, Gavin will join the race to fight cystic fibrosis in the London Marathon.

The best friend of Gavin's daughter suffers from cystic fibrosis, the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases. The child's plight and fight has inspired Gavin to raise money through his participation in his second London Marathon. Donations can be made online at www.justgiving.com/olivergavin.

"Whatever people can give is fantastic," Gavin said. "It affects more than 8,000 babies, children and young adults. This disease attacks the lungs and the digestive system, literally clogging them with thick, sticky mucus that makes it difficult to breathe and digest food. At present there is no cure.

"Time is of the essence and the quality and speed of research is heavily dependant upon adequate funding being available," he added. "Much of this work has so far been funded by the CF Trust - a Charity which is heavily dependant upon a relatively small community of families and friends of CF sufferers, working hard to find funds to improve the life of a loved one."

This will be Gavin's fourth marathon. "My goal is to finish in under three hours," he said. "I ran 50 miles last week and 70 the week before."

The 2008 American Le Mans Series season opens with the 56th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida on Saturday, March 15. The race will start at 10 a.m. ET and will be broadcast live by SPEED, which will begin its coverage at 9:30 a.m. MotorsTV, SPEED Latin America and Greenlight Television will provide international coverage as well. American Le Mans Radio and IMSA's Live Timing & Scoring will be available at americanlemans.com.
