Weekend on the track with the F430s
Maranello (Modena), 20 July 2009 -- Over the last weekend the F430 GTs were the main protagonists in several races, gaining important results in the last events of prestigious series such as the American Le Mans Series and the Spanish and Italian GT national championships.
The Northeast Grand Prix, back at the Lime Rock Park circuit at Lakeville in Connecticut, was this season's fifth race valid for the American Le Mans Series. The F430, started by the Risi Competizione Team and driven by Jaime Melo and Pierre Kaffer, gained second place in the race behind the Porsche 911 with Patrick Long and Jorg Bergmeister, and ahead of the BMW with Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand. At the end of the race, interrupted by a drive through penalty caused by speeding, due to a malfunctioning of the car's speed limiter, and a contact with Long's car on lap 26 when Kaffer sat behind the wheel, the Ferrari Houston team consolidated its second place in the standings in its class, while getting ready for the next race, held at the Mid-Ohio circuit (Lexington, Ohio) on the weekend of 9 August.
On the occasion of the third Spanish GP Championship race, held at the Portuguese track of Estoril, Ferrari conquered first and third place on the podium, thanks to a formidable performance by Ricardo Bravo and Lourenco da Veiga (ASM Team) as well as Manuel Cerqueda and Alan Sicart (Automobil Club Andorra). Second place, between the two F430s, went to the Porsche 997 with Miguel Amaral and Miguel de Castro.
The Spanish series' next race will be held at the Albacete circuit on the weekend of 13 September.
Meanwhile at Misano Adriatico the Italian Gran Turismo Championship participants met for this season's fourth race. The F430s started by Advanced Engineering gained second and third place in race 1, thanks to Alberto Cerrai-Giuseppe Cirò and Alessandro Garofano-Rui Aguas, behind the Porsche 997, driven by Francisco Cruz Martins and Sascha Maassen. The second race, held on Sunday, was dominated by Ferrari, winning ahead of the Porsche thanks to Massimiliano Mugelli and Thomas Kemenater (Scuderia Play Team) ahead of Cruz Martins-Maassen and Cerrai-Cirò. The Autodromo Internazionale in Imola will be the stage for the next round of the Italian series on the weekend of 6 September.
