Sebring 12 Hours
World Class Field
SEBRING, FL March 18, 2011 - Chris Dyson qualified the #16 G-OIL/ModSpace Mazda Lola tenth for the 59th Annual 12 Hours of Sebring, the premier sports car race in North America. The Sebring race kicks off both the 2011 American Le Mans Series and the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, and features a field of 56 cars and teams and drivers from over 20 countries. This is Dyson Racing's 18th 12 Hours of Sebring and first as the "greenest' entry running both eco-friendly G-OIL and IsoButanol bio-fuel.
"We got the most out of the Mazda Lola in qualifying and are looking forward to race start tomorrow morning," said Chris Dyson. "We made the right call on tires. You are qualifying in the heat of day here, but we are on a Dunlop tire that will be better in the cool of the morning. At Sebring, you have to keep the big picture in mind, which is to win the championship. Our main competition tomorrow is the Muscle Milk Lola Aston Martin. Stay out of trouble and you could get a good result and surprise people." Click for More Hi-Res
Joining Dyson and Guy Smith in the car this weekend is Jay Cochran. "Compared to Le Mans, Sebring is a much rougher track with shorter straights. You are in the corners a lot which makes it more of a bullring whereas Le Mans is a more comfortable track. This is like 24 hours crammed into 12 for the car and drivers. Being the beginning of the year too, everybody is all amped up. They haven't had a season yet be comfortable with where they are at with the cars, so it has a lot of elements happening at once."
Smith agrees it will be an active race. "The competition is going to be great. Having the Europeans here is good for us to be able to pit yourself against the best of the European teams. They are racing for their championship and we have to remember we are racing for ours. When the race goes green, you would think we have been racing all year long, because the racing is incredibly hard. As always, Sebring is a brilliant race and I would not be surprised if this is one of the historic ones."
