Everclear To Perform On The XM Stage At The Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

DETROIT, Mich. (August 1, 2008) -- Everything will be "wonderful" at the 2008 Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix on Labor Day weekend, especially following today's announcement that the multi-platinum rock band Everclear will perform on the XM Stage during Grand Prix weekend, August 29-31, 2008.

Presented by XM Satellite Radio, Everclear will entertain the crowd at the Grand Prix with such established hits as "Wonderful," "I Will Buy You a New Life" and "Father of Mine." The Portland, Oregon-based rockers will perform on Sunday, August 31 on the XM Stage in the Meijer Family Fun Zone area of the Grand Prix. All Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Sunday ticketholders may attend the concert. The band will take the XM Stage at 1:35 p.m., just after completion of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Championship race and before the start of the Detroit Indy Grand Prix presented by Firestone featuring the cars and stars of the IndyCar Series.

"XM is pleased to bring Everclear as entertainment to the XM Stage at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix," said Jeff Curry, vice president, automotive marketing, SIRIUS XM Radio. "At XM, we're passionate about racing and its fans, and we love music."

Since being formed in 1992, Everclear has recorded numerous hit singles including "Santa Monica" and "Everything To Everyone." The band has cultivated a legion of devoted fans through heartfelt songs that reflect the real-life experiences of lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Art Alexakis.

The band has recorded seven studio albums that garnered critical praise, sold millions of copies and earned a Grammy nomination. Everclear has also won several awards including Billboard magazine's 1998 "Modern Rock Artist of the Year" honor. In 2008 the band celebrates its 15th year as recording artists and to commemorate the occasion, Everclear has released an eclectic collection of cover songs entitled The Vegas Years.

"We've got a great weekend of entertainment planned and we're excited to welcome Everclear to the 2008 Grand Prix lineup," said Bud Denker, Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix event chairman. "The band has a devoted following and great music and thanks to our partners at XM Radio we think Everclear is going to add to a terrific weekend of racing and fun on Belle Isle."

XM Radio will also provide national satellite radio coverage of the both the IndyCar Series and the American Le Mans Series races on Belle Isle. The leader in satellite-delivered entertainment and data services for the automobile market, XM Radio is found in more than 140 different vehicle models in 2008.

In addition to Everclear, XM Radio will also present another nationally-known musical act at the Grand Prix on Saturday evening, August 30. An announcement on that band is expected in the coming days. Local bands and musical acts will also be performing on the XM Stage throughout race weekend.
