Anthony Davidson finally got to try out the Ferrari 550 Maranello GT in preparation for the Sebring 12 hours in Florida next month, and the Le Mans 24 hours in June. Davidson, test driver for BAR, was due to try out the Ferrari last month but was delayed after Thomas Enge crashed the car in tyre testing. The British driver debuted behind the wheel of the GT at Snetterton, in the UK, yesterday.

"The conditions were freezing but at least it was dry," Davidson told the BAR website. "It's very different from an F1 car, that's for sure. You really notice the extra weight and the car is nowhere near as nimble as the BAR Honda 005 but the power from the V12 engine is just amazing. For such a big beast, it really takes off down the straights."

The Veloqx Prodrive Racing Team had two new 550 chassis at Snetterton and after Thomas Enge had a brief shakedown, Davidson shared with Darren Turner and Kelvin Burt. Turner has been a test driver for McLaren F1 and raced in the German Touring Car championship, Burt was British F3 and GTO champion. Both drove in the ASCAR series last year.

"I really enjoy my testing role for BAR Honda but it's going to be good to get back to racing once again," Davidson said of his upcoming challenges. "I've never been to Sebring but there's a lot of testing time at the circuit before qualifying, so we'll be well settled in by the race. The Corvettes are sure to be hard to beat on their own turf but, whatever happens, it's going to be a great experience for me."
