SERIES, IMSA ANNOUNCE DEPARTURE OF TIM MAYER
BRASELTON, GA (May 8, 2009) - IMSA and the American Le Mans Series announced today that Tim Mayer, the Chief Operating Officer of the companies, will be leaving his post as of the end of May 2009, after five and a half years with the company. Mayer's duties will be re-assigned amongst various personnel and departments within the organization. Following the transition at the end of May, Mayer will continue in an advisory capacity.
"Tim has been a great asset for the company and we will certainly miss his day-to-day presence," said Scott Atherton, President and CEO of the American Le Mans Series. "He has been an integral part of the success of many parts of our company, especially the growth of the American Le Mans Series and the addition of several new racing series that IMSA also now sanctions."
"I am certain that there will be people who try to read too much into this move," said Mayer. "I simply have the opportunity to step back for a while, spend time with my family and look forward to new opportunities. I am very proud to have been involved with the top levels of open-wheel and sports car racing for 17 years, and in that time, I have had incredible opportunities to undertake a wide variety of challenging tasks around the world while touching tens of millions of fans and thousands of team members. If there is one thing that I have learned from the many genius entrepreneurs that I have been lucky to be associated with, it is that you should embrace change when the opportunities present themselves."
