The North American Karting Association, at its January meeting, elected a new slate of officers for 2002. Bryan Herta, one of the most successful American open wheel racing drivers, was elected president of NAKA for 2002. Herta, owner of the Las Vegas Karting Center, started his career in karting and has been instrumental in developing the CART Stars of Tomorrow series for aspiring open wheel racers emerging from karting.

Rick Waddell, with a long history of assisting American drivers to develop their talent, was elected Vice President of NAKA. Waddell brings a corporate background from Microsoft to guide NAKA in serving the entire karting industry.

Joe Ramos of SSC Racing was reelected to the position of secretary of the corporation. Ramos was instrumental in creating the NAKA organization to upgrade the infrastructure of karting in this country, working with retailers and karting tracks to improve their business success.

As the new treasure, Jean Marchioni, of JM Racing, has the experience of not only kart racing, but the international experience of FIA and CIK racing and organization. With his international experience, knowledge, and associations, Jean adds to NAKA's focus on the global, or big picture, which is the future of karting in North America.

The North American Karting Association is a trade organization for the entire karting industry. It's goals and objectives are to grow and expand karting to be a major part of the motorsports industry in North America.
