BMW Team PTG is second, fourth and fifth on the provisional GT grid for Sunday's race. Brian Cunningham was quickest of the team cars, with a time of one minute, 22.205 seconds in the #10 BMW M3. He is co-driving with Peter Cunningham. Hans Stuck, paired with Boris Said, was fourth in the #7 M3 in 1:22.758. Brian Simo, driving with Johannes van Overbeek, qualified the #6 M3 fifth in class in 1:23.536.
Brian Cunningham, driver, #10 BMW M3
"We went out on a good combination of tires. The track's a little greasy because it's warmer. But it's another good day for BMW because again we're right there, not as close as we'd like to be, but three-tenths away -- I think we can pick up by tomorrow."
Hans Stuck, driver, #7 BMW M3
"It didn't work quite as we wanted it. I went out with fresh tires and then I had a hold-up in traffic. I came in to check the tire pressure and we changed something, and I had understeer. We have to check what the weather is like tomorrow, maybe we'll try another tire choice. We'll investigate where the understeer coming from, but for sure we will find this for tomorrow morning."
Brian Simo, driver, #6 BMW M3
"I was a little disappointed, I really thought we'd be able to do a whole lot better. The car was real tight and we made a change. Then we must have had some sort of a fuel pick-up problem, because we ran out of fuel on the second go-round. It was a short qualifying, but we'll give it another shot tomorrow."
Brian Simo, who won the recent Trans-Am race at Mosport, will compete in three different race cars in as many weeks, starting with the BMW M3 this weekend. He'll drive a NASCAR Winston Cup car (#90) at Watkins Glen International next week, and a Trans-Am car at Elkhart Lake the following week.
Boris Said will fly to Charlotte immediately following Sunday's race, then travel by Lear jet to Virginia, where he will test Jeremy Mayfield's NASCAR Winston Cup car on Monday and Tuesday. Said tested Dale Earnhardt's car last week. He will drive the #23 Winston Cup car owned by Jimmy Spencer in next week's race at Watkins Glen International.
Peter Cunningham will be at Watkins Glen as coach for Winston Cup driver Ward Burton.
