SEBRING, Florida, -- The Audi Sport North America R8 number 77 posted a qualifying time of 1:49.72 with an average speed of 121.39 m.p.h., good for second on the American Le Mans provisional grid.

"I had a better lap going and then I came up on some traffic," said Rinaldo Capello, driver of the Audi R8 number 77. "The car is very competitive. The top of the grid is very close with the Panoz and BMW." The Panoz is on the provisional pole with a time of 1:49.71. "With only .500 seconds between the top two cars, any traffic, even passing a car will mean the difference. Compared to last year, we have made a big improvement. The team has done a great job in a short few months developing the car. I am optimistic, when the difference is only .500, that is nothing," continued Capello.

The R8 number 78 driven by Tom Kristensen had a mishap with the turn two wall, causing damage to the front of the car. Kristensen had led the way on the clock up until putting the car off the track. "I was quickest in the practices all day, we didn't change anything - but run low fuel. I went out first so we wouldn't have any traffic. I slowed to avoid another car and this disturbed my rhythm, I locked the front left wheel at maximum speed -- too much go for it on too cold brakes and tires. The car is very strong and safe, I don't have any bruises at all. I am very confident for tomorrow, but rain is in the forecast. I owe the mechanics a beer, the car was in perfect condition and now it is not."

The team will have the number 78 Audi R8 ready to take to the track for the morning session.
