Auburn Hills, Mich., Following a successful test at Road Atlanta, the Audi S4's are eager to take to the track at Sears Point for round four of the SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision GT Series.
"We had a successful test recently. We gained a lot of information at Road Atlanta. We are learning a lot about the car every time we go out. All year I have been saying I can't wait to get to Sears Point. We should have the best result of the year. It is twisty and undulating and really suites our car. We give away 100 horsepower to the bigger cars, but on a race track like Sears, power is not the greatest advantage," said Derek Bell, driver of the Legends of Motorsport/Audi Sport North America/ S4 Competition.
"I think if the race stays green we have a good chance to stay up front. We have a good possibility to use the handling and quattro traction of the car over a full race distance. Sears Point is real twisty, so the car should perform well there," said Michael Galati, driver of the Audi Sport North America/Champion Audi/ S4 Competition.
Following the Mosport event Galati was placed on probation by the SCCA for his altercation with Corvette driver Bill Cooper. "It is one of those racing deals between two drivers. The SCCA is cracking down on contact. It was nothing that was done on purpose; it was a racing incident. When I spoke to Bill Cooper he thought he gave me enough racing room - no hard feelings. I try to race everyone very clean," explained Galati.
"Road Atlanta finally allowed us the opportunity to try some things on the cars without the pressure of a race weekend. The drivers are more comfortable with the cars and the team is making a lot of progress in responding to what the car is doing and the drivers driving styles," said Rod Bymaster, manager of Audi Motorsports.
Michael Galati is currently seventh in points with 52, 18 behind series leader and BMW driver Peter Cunningham. Derek Bell sits in twelfth with 36.
