Audi Sport Charlotte Update, Thursday, March 30, 5:00 p.m.

The Audi Sport R8's posted the second and fourth fastest times in the first round of qualifying for the American Le Mans Lowe's Motor Speedway event.

Emanuele Pirro in the #78 R8 posted a time of 1:04.901 to place second behind the BMW of J.J. Lehto. "We waited unit later in the 20 minute qualifying session to go out. You post your best time during the first couple of laps. Plus we have to start on the tires that we qualified on," said Pirro.

Allan McNish drove the #77 R8 to a fourth place qualifying time of 1:05.099. "The car was a lot better than the session before, we only made a minor change. The circuit also gained some grip. I am quite happy to have both cars in the first two rows," said McNish. "It is remarkable to have all the top six cars in the prototype field within a half- second, you just have to make sure you are at the right end of that half-second."

Separating the R8's in third place is the number 43 BMW of Bill Auberlen.

In the Speedvision World Challenge GT Championship, the number 8 Audi S4 Competition driven by Derek Bell is currently third fastest with a time of 1:23.127, with an average speed of 97.4 m.p.h. The teams second car to be driven by Michael Galati was not ready in time for the Charlotte event.
