Atherton: Tribute to Ralph Sanchez

A statement from Scott Atherton on the passing of Ralph Sanchez

The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón joins the global motorsports community in mourning the loss of Ralph Sanchez, founder of the Grand Prix of Miami, who passed away Monday at the age of 64.

"We are all deeply saddened by the news of Ralph’s passing. He was a true motorsports promoter, an accomplished businessman, a family man and a visionary – all wrapped in designer suits and old-school gentleman’s etiquette.

"I owe a personal debt of gratitude to Ralph as he was the one who brought Don Panoz and me together back in 2000. I had the pleasure of working with him back in the ‘80s as an associate sponsor of his events and in the ‘90s as a fellow promoter of CART / ChampCar events. We all learned a lot from Ralph in that era that still applies today. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him – and by the countless race fans who enjoyed the results of Ralph’s hard work and entrepreneurial drive.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Ralph’s family at this most difficult time."
