ALMS Teams Lime Rock Park Pre-Event Quotes

Lime Rock Park

In Their Own Words: Lime Rock Park
How do you summarize 1.5 miles and eight turns in less than a minute?

Insanity. Complete chaos. Like a bullring. Feels like it never ends.

That’s Lime Rock Park in just a few words. As difficult as a two-hour, 45-minute race in the American Le Mans Series can be, the job gets that much tougher at Lime Rock. At 1.5 miles and just eight turns around, it’s the shortest track on the ALMS schedule each year and makes traffic even more treacherous to negotiate.

Adding to the ante is that this weekend’s American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix is the first of seven races in a 13-week stretch that will determine this year’s class champions.

Guy Cosmo, Extreme Speed Motorsports
Ferrari F458 Italia (GT)
“Communication is the key between the team and the drivers. It makes the entire race program. If one thing goes wrong, then you really are out of the mix.”

Gunnar Jeannette, CORE autosport
“Going to Lime Rock is like going to a bullring. It’s a very, very short track. It’s also the closest thing we have to an oval because there are so many right-hand turns.”

Patrick Long, Flying Lizard Motorsports
Porsche 911 GT3 RSR (GT)
“The line between hero and zero, and that’s why I love it. Lime Rock, plainly put… It’s insanity!”

Jan Magnussen, Corvette Racing
Corvette C6.R (GT)
“So much can go wrong. It’s always mega-hard on equipment. There are no obvious passing places so you are having to barge your way through.”

Tommy Milner, Corvette Racing
Corvette C6.R (GT)
“You’re always fighting and you never have a break at Lime Rock. You’re constantly looking ahead of you and in your mirrors. It feels like it never ends.”

Bryan Sellers, Team Falken Tire
Porsche 911 GT3 RSR (GT)
“It’s the hardest place we go. It’s complete chaos at all points in time. Every pass at Lime Rock is always a little bit risky. There’s no long straightaway where you can set people up, so everything is a last-minute move.”

Scott Sharp, Extreme Speed Motorsports
Ferrari F458 Italia (GT)
“I’m one of the few who love it. How you get through traffic determines everything.”
