Risi To Start Lime Rock Race From Back Of The Grid
Practice incident sidelines Ferrari 458
The Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia took no part in this afternoon’s practice and qualifying sessions for the Northeast Grand Prix as repairs were still being carried out to the No.62 car after an incident in this morning’s practice. The car will therefore take the start of tomorrow’s 2 hour 45 minute race from the back of the grid.
Just ten minutes before the end of the one-hour session, the left rear of Toni Vilander’s Ferrari had contact with the right front of Bill Auberlen’s #55 BMW at Turn 4, sending both cars off into the grass. While the BMW continued round to the pits, the Ferrari ended up against the fence causing damage to the right front as well as the left rear. Unfortunately, when the car was returned to the Risi team’s pits, it was apparent that the impact had been more substantial than first thought and the highly experienced team of mechanics set about effecting repairs.
Team Manager, David Sims, said of the incident, “It’s a real shame as we were going well, and were working our way steadily through a list of set up changes which were all looking very promising. However, these things happen.
“There was some repairable chassis damage and we’ll replace the left rear suspension, right front cooling ducts, front splitter and floor. We plan to be out for warm up tomorrow but will start the race from the back of the grid as we didn’t set a qualifying time.”
