Atherton, star competitors receive distinguished honor
A number of figures from the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón have been elected into The Road Racing Drivers Club for 2010. Thirty- one new members for the prestigious organization were announced over the weekend - many with roots in the Series and sanctioning body IMSA.
Current Series stars Chris Dyson, Marino Franchitti, Joey Hand, Greg Pickett were among the competitors selected. In addition, Series President and CEO Scott Atherton was one of four invitees for Honorary Membership.
Other notable honorees familiar to the American Le Mans Series and IMSA include Ryan Briscoe, Kelly Collins, Gil de Ferran, Tony de Lorenzo, Scott Dixon, Calvin Fish, Memo Gidley, Tony Kanaan and Graham Rahal.
"This is perhaps one of the most impressive groups of new members to receive invitations to join the RRDC in the long history of the club," said club president Bobby Rahal, himself a team owner in the American Le Mans Series. "For 58 years, membership in the RRDC has been a badge of honor for outstanding racers and a select few others with legacy-level relationships to the sport. Membership, however, also infers the responsibilities of racing leadership, representing the best qualities of sportsmanship, taking an active interest in safety and helping new drivers launch successful and enduring racing careers."
Next up for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón is a return trip to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge. The two-hour, 45-minute race - Round 6 of the 2010 championship - is set for 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 7. Live race and qualifying video will be streamed online at americanlemans.com. Live radio coverage will be available on American Le Mans Radio presented by Porsche - a production of Radio Show Limited - as well as Sirius Channel 127 and XM Channel 242. The race will be broadcast at 12:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 15 on CBS Sports. Visit the Series' schedule page for ticket and accommodation information. Live Timing and Scoring, track schedule, entry list and much, much more will be available on Racehub at americanlemans.com.
