Bergmeister Qualifies No. 45 Fourth in GT for Mid-Ohio
August 5, 2011 - Lexington, Ohio – Joerg Bergmeister qualified the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche fourth on the GT grid for tomorrow's Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge, with a time of 1:20.917. In the No. 44, Seth Neiman was 15th. Joey Hand of the No. 56 BMW is on the GT pole with a time of 1:20.539. For Saturday's 2 hour and 45 minute race, Patrick Long will join Bergmeister in the No. 45 and Darren Law teams with Neiman in the No. 44.
Bergmeister commented on qualifying: "I was happy with my lap and the car felt very good. We definitely improved the car during the practice sessions; we made good steps forward but that's all we had for qualifying."
He continued: "The weather could be a factor tomorrow – we might see some rain. For us the rain won't necessarily hurt; I like driving in the wet and the Porsches typically handle well. Also, the track conditions here can change rapidly. This morning it was really slick, then as it warmed up grip built up quickly; we'll have to see the conditions play out tomorrow. It's going to be a challenging race: Mid-Ohio is a technical track with corner combinations where you need to position the car exactly right to get a good run and you can lose a lot of time if you don't get it right."
Bergmeister and Long are now sixth in the GT drivers' championship with 34 points. Neiman is ninth and Law is twelfth. Dirk Mueller and Joey Hand of the No. 56 BMW lead with 80 points. The team is fourth in the team championship and Porsche is fourth in the manufacturers' championship.
