Lizards at Mosport for ALMS Round Four
Bergmeister and Long Climb to Third in GT Drivers' Championship
Flying Lizard heads to Ontario, Canada this week for the Grand Prix of Mosport, which will get the green flag on Sunday, July 24 at 3:05 pm ET. The driver lineup is Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long in the No. 45 and Seth Neiman and Marco Holzer in the No. 44.
Earlier this month, the team secured their first podium of the year: a second place finish for the No. 45 at Lime Rock. Flying Lizard chief strategist Thomas Blam commented, "We had two strong cars at Lime Rock: the No. 45 was in a position to fight for the win until the end when a late-race tire puncture forced us to settle for second. The result helped us dig out of the points hole created by our disappointing finish at Sebring and the DNF at Long Beach." Bergmeister and Long are currently third in the ALMS GT drivers' championship with 34 points, just behind Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen of the No. 4 Corvette with 37 points. Dirk Mueller and Joey Hand of the No. 56 BMW have a hefty lead with 70 points. Flying Lizard is third in the team championship standings.
A record-breaking heat wave is predicted to arrive in Ontario at the end of the week, just in time for the first practice sessions. Blam added, "This is the first time we've raced at Mosport in July. Mosport is a demanding track under the best of conditions: the extreme heat will certainly affect our tire management and will be difficult for the drivers and the team. In 2010, Joerg and Patrick won here, so we know that we have an opportunity to keep the momentum going from Lime Rock. But again we have zero margin for error: we must finish in the top GT spots for the remainder of the season to have a shot at the GT title."
